BIOL 501 - PRINCIPLES OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE

At the end of these two courses, our cohort created a Biology and Environmental Science web page, using an image of a forest as the home page.  Each participant was responsible for researching information about some part of this image, then using that information to create a web page. Each participant's web page can be accessed from the home page. My information is linked at #17, and is all about soil-- the ecosystem within it and the various soil systems that exist. My project "The Soil Ecosystem" can be viewed below, or use the following link to check mine and the other web pages created by the teachers in my cohort- MISEP Biology/Env Science Project (accessible only by Penn STI Participants).

The use of accurate scientific language is illustrated so beautifully in my web project. I say "beautifully" because this project consists of three web pages that I designed and they are illustrated with gorgeous pictures that I found on the Internet about soil- the different types of soil systems and the organisms that live in it. I also think this piece is a beautiful illustration of scientific language. It reflects many of the concepts that I learned about in my biology and environmental courses. Before this activity the extent of my vocabulary did not extend past these words: ants, worms, beetles, and soil (and most of the time I call it dirt). This amount of growth is almost unbelievable which is another reason why I feel that this is a beautiful piece to include for this rubric category.
