The African Studies Center, University
of Pennsylvania invites interested students to attend the second annual
"Careers in Africa" day that will take place on the University of Pennsylvania
campus on Friday 7th April 2000.
This Ford Foundation funded event, is designed to introduce undergraduate students to professional possibilities in and related to Africa. We are inviting members from diverse fields such as international business, health, development, communications, the Foreign Service, humanitarian relief and human rights to make presentations. These presentations will highlight the required training, application procedures, nature of the work and rewards from careers in Africa.
Penn African Studies will sponsor the attendance of 30 minority students from Greater Delaware Valley institutions to this event. Sponsorship will include transportation to and from the Penn campus, dinner, and an invitation to the African Studies’ biannual African Language and Culture Festival where they will meet their counterparts at Penn who are already involved in African Studies. Sponsored students who attend the event will be eligible to apply for four internships in Africa during the summer of 2001. The internships will be structured around the successful candidates interests and goals especially those developed during the intervening year. Applications for sponsorship must include a brief statement outlining interest in the event ("Careers in Africa" Day and the 2001 Summer Internship). The applications deadline is 17th March 2000.
