"THE MAGIC TOUCH" A MULTI-CULTURAL DANCE COMPANY
GOMPERS SECONDARY SCHOOL FOR MATH, SCIENCE & COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY
Our dance company is an incentive for our Math, Science and Computer Technology students to keep up their grades and good citizenship. Based out of our Physical Education & Fine Arts Departments, the dancers study West African, Caribbean, Hispanic, Laotian, Samoan, Ballet, Jazz, Modern Dance, Creative Movement and Performance Techniques. While building self-esteem and good leadership qualities, the students have consistently toured and taught master classes throughout the county since 1990.
Our dance company reflects the school's demographics: 40% African- American, 23% Hispanic, 27% Asian and 10% Caucasian. We have approximately 100 eligible dancers (who maintain a grade point average of 2.5 and good citizenship) touring out of our periods four and six. We can leave the school site as early as 10:45 a.m. and return no later than 3:15 p.m. The show runs 45 minutes. We perform no more than three shows in one day.
COST: The requesting school site makes all bus arrangements and payments to transportation. A $50.00 per show honorarium goes towards our dance club funds, helping to support our program. The honorarium payment is optional.Make checks payable to: Gompers Secondary School We ask that you provide snacks and drinks for our dancers, which usually total no more than 20 per tour. Bookings should be made well in advance since we have lots of paperwork to do to get the students released.
