These are some of the resources that pertain to African-American studies.
African & African American Studies
Information on Teaching African and African American History.Managed by the African & African American Studies Department, the School District of Philadelphia, USA. The Department serves public, private, and parochial schools; administrative offices;
and local community organizations (parent groups, universities, museums, newspapers, communication media, etc.).
Culture
Connection Programs
A monthly series of programs hosted by Dr. Carolyn L. Holmes,
Supervisor of African and African American Studies (Mrs. Dianne S. Partee,
former Curriculum Specialist was the co-host during 1995 to 2002). The
program highlights topics, issues and themes that reflect the diverse
African and African American cultural and historical experiences.

This information has been made accessible by the Reference Department of the Thomas Jefferson
Library of the University of Missouri-St. Louis.This homepage supplies links to information, articles, and narratives about the State's
history taken from sources such as the Official Manual of the State of Missouri,
Preservation Issues by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the African
American Heritage of St. Louis by the St. Louis Public Library

Resources on African American history, art, as well as Slavery, and
Civil Rights.

Extensive African-American on-line resources, e.g. history, politics, media, organizations, etc.

History through the Arts
Resources includes contributions from the sculptor Martin Puryear,
the painters Michael Ray Charles and Puvis Young, as well as images of
traditional African art, Africans in European art, pre-Civil War art, etc.
African-American History and Culture (LOC)
The Manuscript Division has one of the nation's most valuable collections for the study of
African-American history and culture. The Library's holdings include information about
slavery and the slave trade as well as other aspects of plantation life. Papers of slaveholders
provide one view of slavery, and slave narratives give another.

Mosaic (LOC)
This exhibit includes selections from The African-American Mosaic: A Library of Congress Resource
Guide for the Study of Black History and Culture. This is the first Library-wide resource guide to
the institution's African-American collections, that surveys the full range size, and variety of the
Library's collections, including books, periodicals, prints, photographs, music, film, and recorded
sound.
American
Slavery: A Composite Autobiography
This on-line, searchable database is built in an effort to support
the growing community surrounding the slave narratives and oral history
in general. The site also includes: public discussion forums for
genealogists, educators and general discussions, private "classrooms"
equipped with real-time chat, discussion boards, and lesson plans, and a
variety of links to other Web sites and related resources.
Black
Data Processing Associates (BDPA)
The mission of BDPA is to sustain a network of information technology professionals that is a
positive influence in the information processing industry; a network which shares information,
provides education and performs community service. This archive includes a BDPA FAQ, and information
on Chapter Listings, the BDPANet Bulletin Board System, the Youth Mini-Conference, and the Annual
National Conferences.

People in Black History
This Week in Black History includes a weekly update each Thursday or Friday morning on Black
History Information by Month and Black History Events and People.
MELANET (Jordan Family Enterprises Co.)
MELANET is an electronic commerce, resource, and research center. A service of New Perspective
Technologies Company, MELANET provides a central location whereby Black business persons may market
their goods and services to one another as well as the rapidly growing on-line consumer base. This
section includes information on Kwanza, Ujamaa fashions, etc.
Stamp on Black History
The United States Postal Service has issued Black History-related stamps to commemorate black men and women who have contributed to America's history and who have made a difference. This web site highlights important people and events in Black History
from the era of slavery to the modern civil rights movement. Also highlighted are groups of black men and women who have made contributions in the world of science, athletics, politics and the arts etc.

This large site points to resources on Black History, Business, Event Calendar, Schools &
Student Organizations, Professional Organizations, Fraternities & Sororities, Resources, Engineering,
Science, and Technology, Educational Opportunities/Activities, Businesses, Life, Written Word, Spoken
Word, Art, Politics and the Diaspora.
Black/African Information
Sites, (Arthur McGee)
Includes links to on-line information storage sites (FTP, Gopher, Telnet, WWW, BBS, Database,
etc.) that contain a significant amount of information relating to or of concern to Black or African
people, culture, and issues around the world, either in files or conferences. Also included are
resources relating to ethnic/intercultural relations, international/sustainable development (includes
global networking), and social/progressive activism.

for Teaching About The Amistad
A bibliography of resources for teaching about the Amistad including books for children and adults, teachers' guides, a video, and other materials.
The W.E.B. Du Bois Virtual University
The University is dedicated to the study of the life, legacy, and works
of Dr. Du Bois and the culture of the African diaspora. The site offers classrooms and online
conferencing. The Univesity contains downloadable bibliographies of works by and about Du Bois, as well as listings of scholars who have published on Du Bois.
