Chart your own course. Penn's Master of Liberal Arts (MLA) is an interdisciplinary master's degree in which students create an individualized course of study within the arts and sciences designed around a theme of their own choosing. On either a part-time or full-time basis, MLA students learn multiple approaches to exploring an area of interest, developing the skills and knowledge to understand issues from varying perspectives. This flexibility allows you to pursue your dreams without interrupting your career.
While the MLA is an opportunity for self-discovery, it can also serve as a vehicle to a new career or a means of increasing expertise in your respective field. Some students even continue studies at the doctoral level. Along the way you will encounter fascinating people who share your intellectual curiosity. MLA students have wide-ranging interests and diverse academic, professional and personal backgrounds.
In addition to participating in stimulating seminars taught by renowned faculty, you will be able to take advantage of the rich academic resources available to you at the University of Pennsylvania, including a world-class research library, a full array of resources for students and a vibrant intellectual community.
