Prospective Students
The typical student in the Masters of Science in Applied Geosciences Program is a practicing professional with an undergraduate degree in geology, engineering, architecture, or the equivalent. Many are established geotechnical or environmental practitioners who seek the career advancement a graduate degree can offer.
The Master of Science in Applied Geosciences Program serves:
- Established professionals who seek further specialized instruction in one or more aspect of geoscience studies
- Established geoscience practitioners who have encountered professional limitations often overcome with a graduate degree
- College graduates who would like to expand specialized interests and obtain a master’s degree to effect a career change
- Degree candidates in professional schools who would like to combine the professional skills acquired from their primary programs with the substance of a degree in applied geoscience
- Submatriculants at Penn majoring in environmental studies, geology in the School of Arts and Sciences (the College), or engineering in the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) who choose to acquire the credentials that will enable them to accept responsible entry-level positions in the field of applied geoscience.
