Post-Baccalaureate
Penn Alumni Program

The College of General Studies offers Penn alumni a way to continue their studies with a simplified admissions procedure for those interested solely in taking additional undergraduate courses in the day or evening.

Eligibility and Admission

Any person who has graduated from an undergraduate or graduate school of the University of Pennsylvania may apply. Recipients of certificates and participants in non-degree or non-credit programs as well as students returning from leaves of absence are not eligible for the Penn Alumni Program and must follow the normal admission procedures for a CGS program.

Alumni interested in any of the specialized programs of the College of General Studies must submit a complete application to that program and may not be admitted through the Penn Alumni Program. These applicants must pay the application fee and should ask the Office of the University Registrar (221 Franklin Building, 215.898.6411/6412) to forward an official copy of their Penn transcripts to CGS, 3440 Market Street, Suite 100.

Courses

Students may take day or evening courses at their discretion, though different tuition rates apply. Certain courses outside of the School of Arts and Sciences may be unavailable. All normal regulations regarding availability and completion of courses, prerequisites, departmental permission, grades, credit, payment of tuition, issuance of transcripts, and withdrawal procedures apply to alumni students. Questions regarding prerequisites listed in the course description should be addressed to the instructor or the department offering the course. Alumni who are interested in graduate courses should apply to the Non-Traditional Graduate Studies Program.

Transfer to Other CGS Programs

Participants in the Penn Alumni Program who decide at a later date that they wish to participate in another of the College of General Studies Credit Programs must submit a complete application to that program. They may not transfer into another CGS program without doing so.
