Summer Sessions
Admissions
The University of Pennsylvania welcomes qualified students from other institutions in the U.S. and abroad to its Summer Sessions. Students take regular undergraduate and graduate Penn courses and earn Penn credits that are generally transferable to other institutions. Upon completion of a Penn summer course, students may obtain an official transcript from the University of Pennsylvania. Admission to the Summer Sessions is for summer only, and does not constitute admission to the College of General Studies or any other academic program or division at the University of Pennsylvania.
Visiting students who are currently attending, or have attended a post-secondary institution other than Penn and wish to take classes at Penn during the summer term only must complete a formal application. Click here to apply to Summer Sessions.
Penn staff members who wish to begin taking undergraduate courses during the summer, and will likely continue to be enrolled in future terms are advised to explore our degree and non-degree options. Staff members who have not earned an undergraduate degree may pursue non-degree undergraduate study or the Bachelor of Arts. Staff members who already have a bachelor’s degree should apply to the Post-Baccalaureate Undergraduate Studies Program. Click here if you wish to take classes during Summer Sessions only.
If you fall into one of the following categories, you are required to complete a registration process rather than a formal application for admission:
Penn Students
Students currently enrolled in all Schools and Divisions of the University of Pennsylvania may register in advance for Summer Session courses. Students must register in the School in which they will be registered during fall 2008.
Incoming Penn Freshmen
Incoming Penn freshmen must fill out the Penn Freshman Registration Form and submit it along with a copy of their letter of acceptance to Penn. Click here to download the form. No other supporting documentation is required. The application fee is waived.
Penn Alumni
Anyone who has graduated from a degree program at the University of Pennsylvania and is currently in good standing with the University is eligible to take undergraduate courses through the College of General Studies. For all options available to Penn Alumni, click here.
Auditors
Anyone may audit an undergraduate course at CGS with the permission of the instructor. The auditor must complete an Auditor Program Request form and obtain the instructor's signature. Auditors may register for a class upon returning the signed form. There is no application fee.
Auditors are welcome to audit undergraduate courses in the School of Arts and Sciences (pending instructor approval), with all the same tuition and fees applying to them as any other CGS Non-Degree Undergraduate student.
Students 65 or older may be interested in the Senior Auditing Program. Click here to learn more.
