College of General Studies Scholarship Opportunities

All CGS Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit, commitment, and financial need. Carefully read the information below, and then choose the scholarship(s) for which you are most eligible.

Aronfreed Pre-Veterinary Scholarship

The Aronfreed Pre-Veterinary Scholarships are provided through the generosity of Dr. Eva Aronfreed to assist post-baccalaureate students who wish to become veterinarians.

Recipients are funded for one CGS course unit per fall and spring terms. Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 to remain eligible.

Applicants must complete a scholarship application as well as an online FAFSA application http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. Recipients may reapply as needed.

Application deadline: June 1st.

Bread Upon the Waters Scholarship

Bread Upon the Water scholarships are funded by donations from private sources and from former CGS students who want to help others benefit from CGS programs.

Applicants must be women over the age of 30. 

Recipients are funded for up to two CGS courses per fall and spring terms and two courses in the CGS Summer Session until graduation. Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 to remain eligible.

Applicants must complete a scholarship application as well as an online FAFSA application http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. Additionally, those applicants identified as potential awardees will be contacted to complete an interview.

Application deadline: June 1st.

Dean’s Scholarship for Graduates of Community College of Philadelphia

The Dean’s Scholarships are funded by donations from private sources with additional support from the Senior Associates.

Applicants must have completed a program of study in the liberal arts and sciences at CCP.

Recipients are funded for up to two CGS course units per fall and spring terms, and two courses in the CGS Summer Session until graduation.  Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 to remain eligible.

Applicants must complete a scholarship application as well as an online FAFSA application http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

Application deadline: June 1st.

The Kay Scholarship

The Kay Scholarships are provided through the generosity of the Kay family.

Applicants must be individuals with at least eight years of progressively responsible positions in the arts, business, or public service who wish to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Recipients will be funded for one to two CGS courses per fall and spring terms and one course in the CGS Summer Session.  Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 to remain eligible.

Applicants must complete a scholarship application as well as an online FAFSA application http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

This scholarship is not currently accepting applications.

Michael P. Murray Scholarship

Applicant must be an individual who has demonstrated exemplary leadership, participation in community service, and commitment to continuing education, who wishes to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Recipients are funded for up to two CGS course units per fall and spring terms, and two courses in the CGS Summer Session until graduation.  Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 to remain eligible.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

The Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships are awarded to students in liberal arts programs in two-year colleges who have been accepted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Recipients are funded for up to two CGS courses per fall and spring terms and two CGS courses in the summer. Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 to remain eligible.

Applicants must complete a scholarship application, submit a copy of their induction letter or PTK membership certificate and complete an online FAFSA application http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/.  

Application deadline: June 1st.

Senior Associates Scholarship

Senior Associates Scholarships are awarded through the generosity of the Senior Associates, a group of retired citizens who audit Penn courses through CGS. Priority is given to first-generation college students.

Recipients are funded for one CGS course per fall and spring terms for up to two terms.

Applicants must complete a scholarship application.
