Academics

Africana Studies is an interdisciplinary field of study devoted to the critical and systematic examination of the cultural, political, social, economic, and historical experiences of peoples of the African Diaspora. Our courses of study are designed to provide students with an integrated understanding and appreciation for the African, African American, Caribbean and other African Diaspora experiences in their diverse dimensions. Courses are offered in various departments and programs including Anthropology, English, Folklore, History, Linguistics, Music, Political Science, Religious Studies, Romance Languages, Sociology, Urban Studies, and Women's Studies; select courses in the Schools of Education, Law, and Nursing, and in the Annenberg and Wharton Schools are also available.

Graduate work in Africana Studies can enhance one's ability to understand the social and cultural aspects of work in more traditional academic disciplines, as well as in medicine, education, law, and business.
