Morgan Condell, Sicily Research, Summer 2016

Morgan Condell joined Margie Miles (UC Irvine), Jess Paga (William & Mary), and Thomas Rose (University of Tennessee) in Sicily to produce the first comprehensive architectural study of the classical sanctuary at Contrada Mango, one of the two major temple sites at ancient Segesta.  The remains of the sanctuary include a massive temenos wall that also served as a terrace to support the temple platform, along with architectural elements from a large-scale Doric temple, and possibly the remains of other sacred buildings.  Work will continue in 2017, including a topographical study to better understand the role of this sanctuary in the history and landscape of Segesta.
