Gavin joined the Ancient History Graduate Group in the fall of 2015. He received his B.A. in Classics, summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from Loyola University Maryland in 2012, and his M.A. in Classical Studies from Vanderbilt University in 2014. He has broad interests in the history, literature, and archaeology of the Greek world from the late Hellenistic to late Roman periods. Most recently, his work has focused on the ideology of rulership and elite self-representation at local, regional, and supra-regional levels. Since 2013 he has worked as a research and educational program assistant at the American Excavations at Kenchreai, Greece.
