Penn and Gentrification - Design Competition

Stories of gentrification have been told over and over again for cities like LA and boroughs like Brooklyn. This competition will aim to encourage participants to reflect on the gentrification of West Philadelphia. Neighborhoods like Black Bottom have fought to keep their original residents and manage their heritage. We interrogate Penn's role in this process, both historically and moving forward. Participants' submissions will be featured in the historic Philomathean Halls, where they will hang from Nov. 1st - 3rd for a free viewing which is open to the public. They will be discussed and questioned by leaders in the field, a professional panel of jurors who have spent their careers looking at gentrification and represent the Philadelphia community. Join the competition at https://goo.gl/forms/XFcly7ab6f0nGnpz2to receive the prompt the moment it is released on October 23rd. Participants have 5 days to develop a response.

This event is hosted by the Philomathean Society and generously funded by the Andrea Mitchell Center.
