Public Interest High School Initiative
Teaching
cultural anthropology at University City High School, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The
Turner Nutrition Awareness Project
TNAP, which is sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania's Center for
Community Partnerships and the Department of Anthropology, seeks to link
the intellectual resources at Penn with the those of the John B. Turner
Middle School in West Philadelphia to improve the health and nutrition
of the surrounding community. The project has been supported by grants
from the Ford Foundation, the W. H. Kellogg Foundation, the Nassau Fund,
private donors, and the University of Pennsylvania.
University
of Pennsylvania Africa Health Group
An interdisciplinary group which seeks to expand knowledge about connections
between health and society in Africa and is committed to improving health
conditions in African communities.
Urban
Nutrition Initiative
UNI involves children from West Philadelphia in a school-based community
health curriculum that strives to improve nutritional status and promote
active learning.
Interdisciplinary
Dialogues on AIDS
PIDA is a yearlong series of informed critical discussions about the global
AIDS pandemic. PIDA endeavors through an interdisciplinary approach to
expand understanding of the problem by juxtaposing biomedical, behavioral
and sociocultural aspects of AIDS and contextualizing the pandemic within
a geographic framework.
