Laura Kunreuther

Visiting Scholar

Laura Kunreuther is a cultural anthropology whose research is based in Nepal.  Her research focuses on several intersecting themes: media and mediation, emerging publics, political and intimate discourses of voice, discourses of democracy, gender, property, cultural memory.  She has published articles in Cultural Anthropology, American Ethnologist, Journal of Linguistic Anthropology and other journals, and her book, Voicing Subjects: Public Intimacy and Mediation in Kathmandu is forthcoming from University of California press.  She graduated with a BA degree in anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania, and received her PhD from University of Michigan in 2001.  She is currently visiting Penn from Bard College, where she is Associate Professor and Director of the Anthropology Program.
