ANTH006 - THE PREHISTORIC WORLD

This course (formerly ANTH001) is a critical review of the archaeological and fossil evidence for human evolution over the past 3 million years. The primary focus is on the question of what characteristics - either biological or behavioral - truly make us human and distinct from our prehistoric ancestors. At the same time, and drawing on the instructor's 30+ years of active archaeological fieldwork, this course will also emphasize both the potential and pitfalls of reconstructing ancient behavior on the basis of the evidence available to paleoanthropologists.
