American Modernism 1900–1945
Robert Wilson Torchia with Nancy Anderson, Charles Brock, Harry Cooper, and Franklin Kelly

This catalog includes 100 paintings by first-generation American modernists who came to prominence in the United States before 1945 and entered the National Gallery of Art collection from 1944 to 2013. That year marked the centennial of an event that shaped the history of the early American avant-garde and served as a rite of passage for many American modernists: the 1913 International Exhibition of Modern Art, popularly known as the Armory Show. This catalog will be published in two sections, with the release of the first coinciding with the reopening of the East Building in fall 2016.
