Welcome Professor Ivan Drpić

A message from the Chair:

Dear all,
It's July, which means that Professor Ivan Drpić has officially joined the faculty. A specialist in the art, architecture, and material culture of Byzantium and its Slavic neighbors in Southeastern Europe, with emphasis on the period from the eleventh through the fifteenth centuries, Ivan promises to bring exciting new questions and methods to our intellectual community, and we are delighted about the prospect. Students, I encourage you to sign up for the new opportunity that his classes represent, and please join me in welcoming him to the department now that his time here has officially begun. Only days before joining us, his
first book, Epigram, Art, and Devotion in Later Byzantium (Cambridge University Press, 2016), was awarded the 2017 Runciman Prize, an annual prize offered by the Anglo-Hellenic League (London). So I also want to congralate him on behalf of all of us on this significant recognition of his scholarly accomplishments.
