Who are all these happy people? They're the newest crop of LPS graduates. The 210 degrees earned in 2011 ranged from the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts to Master's degrees in Applied Positive Psychology, Applied Geosciences, Environmental Studies, Medical Physics, and Liberal Arts. From sustainable buildings to sustainable landscaping and beyond, the campus of the University of Pennsylvania has gone green. President Amy Gutmann was the first Ivy League President to sign the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment (ACUPCC), leading the way in addressing the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase research and education at places of higher learning in order to curb rapid changes in the earth’s climate.

For years geologists have known that the Marcellus Shale contained vast amounts of natural gas, but because of the nature of the rock extraction of this resource has not been economically feasible. As oil prices have risen and extraction technologies have improved, these reserves are now viable. What are the risks involved with tapping the Marcellus Shale? Could this adversely affect the drinking water supply of residents all along the Delaware River?
