I’m willing to bet that if you’re a visitor to this website, you probably already know what an exciting time this is for the School, and for all of Penn. Last night, President Gutmann announced Penn’s extraordinary success in the Making History Campaign, which raised an astounding $4.3 billion. I’m happy to say that the School of Arts and Sciences shares fully in this larger success story. More than 8,000 generous supporters gave a total of $528.7 million to fund the School’s most pressing priorities. Our donors have endowed 318 new scholarships to help meet the financial need of our undergraduates. We are stronger than ever in our efforts to recruit and retain the best faculty, thanks to the 39 new endowed chairs that were established through the campaign. Our donors provided $100 million toward critical facilities projects ranging from a renovation of the historic Music Building to construction of a state-of-the-art Neural and Behavioral Sciences Building. These new resources are helping us to strengthen graduate student support and launch innovative programs to enhance the undergraduate experience. There are hundreds of stories to tell about the tremendous impact that this campaign has already had on every aspect of what we do—and you can explore a few of these stories by visiting our Time to Shine highlights page and the University’s online Campaign Final Report.  For my part, I’ll be sharing these wonderful stories with as many of our alumni, donors, parents, and friends as I possibly can. The campaign has truly been a transformative time for SAS, and I am grateful to our many friends, and privileged to have witnessed this history in the making.
