Programs for International Students

The University of Pennsylvania's College of General Studies offers a variety of unique opportunities for international students to study at a prestigious American university through a variety of degree and non-degree options.  The College of General Studies assists international students combine academic English instruction with credit courses in the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Arts and Sciences.

Penn is a wonderful place to experience American culture. Located in one of America’s oldest and largest cities — the home of our country’s birth — Penn is consistently ranked among the best universities in the United States.  Penn is also one of the 8 private universities known as the “Ivy League.”

Our courses provide some of the most comprehensive and academically stimulating credit and non-credit course offerings in the nation. Class sizes are kept as small as possible and most classes are discussion-based. International students take courses with Penn students, earn college credits that can be transferred to other universities, and receive an official transcript from the University of Pennsylvania.

The College of General Studies, the English Language Programs and other departments at Penn will assist international students with questions regarding the application process, visas, and school transfers. The community at Penn welcomes and looks forward to helping international students to address their academic and personal goals.
