Configuring Your Email Client for Mail.sas
When using an email client for mail.sas, specific configurations
are required to ensure the password is not sent in clear text (unencrypted)
over the network.
If you use mail.sas's
webmail or if you connect to mail.sas with a host-based client (such
as elm, mutt, or pine), you do not need to configure any special
settings as your password is already encrypted.
If you use an email client such as Netscape Messenger, Outlook,
or Eudora, you do need to configure special settings. You
will first need to:
- Decide whether you will use the IMAP (recommended) or the POP
protocol. Please click here for
more information. Users of the facstaff.sas system can only use
IMAP.
- Decide which SMTP server to use. When configuring your email client for off
campus use, you will
have to know in advance what server you will use to send your mail. Please
see here for more information.
- On a Windows computer, you will need to ensure that your
antivirus program is not set up to scan incoming or outgoing email messages
for viruses. If you have Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition (SAV 9.x), please see here for
instructions on ensuring the scanning is disabled.
