Disabling Email Scanning in SAV 9/10

The latest versions of Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition (SAV 9 / 10) inlcude a new feature that allows for incoming and outgoing email traffic to be scanned for viruses. This Internet Email Auto Protect function is incompatible with the use of the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol with email clients such as Eudora, Netscape, and Outlook (Express). Mail.sas users who are using SSL with such products to comply with requirement for secure password transmission must ensure the Internet Email Auto Protect feature in SAS 9 / 10 is disabled.

You can ensure the feature is disabled with the following steps:

  • Open SAV 9 / 10 from Start Menu or via the yellow icon in system tray
  • Click on Configure in left side panel
  • Click on Internet Email Auto Protect
  • In right side panel, ensure the Enable Internet Email Auto Protect box checkbox is unchecked.
  • Choose OK and close SAV 9 / 10
  • More information regarding how mail.sas users are protected from email viruses is available here
