What is a PennKey and how do I create one?
In order to authenticate to many Penn systems, you need to use a
PennKey and password. These systems include many Penn
web sites, Blackboard, some public lab and classroom machines, and
many public e-mail kiosks.
Currently, your PennKey may only be used to authenticate to
mail.sas under very special circumstances, and only if you take special
steps to use kerberos authentication for
e-mail applications or file transfer services. Most
users will continue to use their mail.sas username and password
for all access to mail.sas.
Please see: http://www.upenn.edu/computing/pennkey
for complete information on PennKeys.
Please see below for basic steps on creating a PennKey.
- You must first get a temporary PennKey Setup Code.
Please see here for instructions on obtaining a Setup Code and locations
where you can get one.
- To register your PennKey, you must point your internet browser to
the PennKey registration web site at this
page and authenticate yourself using your temporary Setup Code.
- Set your PennKey password.
- Accept or reject the option to obtain another temporary Setup Code
online should you forget your PennKey password. Otherwise, to reset
a forgotten PennKey password you will need a new temporary Setup Code,
which you may obtain in one of several ways. See here
for more information.
- If you have trouble with these steps, then please try to get help
from your local support provider (LSP).
- If you are a student and do not know who your LSP is,
then please see here.
- If you are SAS staff or faculty, then please see here.
