How do I enable a Shell account?
To use Mail.SAS for an interactive terminal session via Telnet/SSH to read
mail or news, or to transfer files via FTP, SFTP, or SCP, a shell account is
required. To enhance overall system security, shell accounts have not
been enabled by default for most users since 2002. A shell account can
easily be enabled by any mail.sas user who requires one.
Go to https://www.sas.upenn.edu/accounts/ and enter your mail.sas username and password. After logging in, click on Shell Account on the left hand menu. On the new page that appears, click on Enable Shell Account.
Note: If you do not see the Shell Account link, you already have an enabled shell account.
When you have finished the above steps,
the system will indicate that it will create the account.
You will be able to use the account after 20 minutes have passed.
