Facstaff setup for iOS devices

 

This page will demonstrate how to setup your iOS device to use SAS Facstaff email through the mail application.  If you have any other Facstaff questions, please view this page for assistance.  These instructions work the same for iOS 6 devices.

First, sign in to your iOS device and make sure you are on the home screen.

1.) Find your settings app, and select it to open settings.



2.) Find Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and select it.



3.) Select Add Account at the top of Mail, Contacts, Calendars.



4.) Select Other.



5.) Select Add Mail Account.



6.) Enter your name as you would like to see it, your email address (including @sas.upenn.edu), and your email password.



7.) Select Next.

8.) Under Incoming Mail Server, enter facstaff.sas.upenn.edu as the Host Name, and your Pennkey as the User Name.



9.) Scroll down to Outgoing Mail Server and enter facstaff.sas.upenn.edu as the Host Name.  Enter your Pennkey as the User Name and your email password as the Password.  After entering this information select Next at the top right.



10.) Turn Notes off.



11.) Select Save.

12.) You should now see a new account at the top that says sas.upenn.edu.  Select the sas.upenn.edu account.  Then Select Account - 'your email address'.  Scroll down and select SMTP - facstaff.sas.upenn.edu.  Then Select facstaff.sas.upenn.edu under Primary Server.  Make sure that Use SSL is set to On and that Authentication is set to Password.  Select IMAP Path Prefix and enter 'INBOX', in all caps and without quotes.  After doing this, make sure the server port shows 993.  Press done after checking these settings.

If you would like to create a signature, do so by selecting the signature option.



13.) Exit Preferences by pressing the Home button.

14.) Open the Mail app.  Give the application some time to load your email messages.



15.) Once the Mail app has your messages, exit the app by pressing the Home button.

16.) Open Settings again.



17.) Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

18.) Select the sas.upenn.edu Account.



19.) Select your account.



20.) Scroll down and select Advanced.



21.) Select Drafts Mailbox.



22.) Under On the Server, scroll down until you see a Drafts folder.  Select this folder.  Then select Advanced at the top left.



23.) Select Sent Mailbox.

24.) Under On the Server, scroll down until you see a Sent folder.  Select this folder.  Then select Advanced at the top left.



25.) Select Deleted Mailbox.

26.) Under On the Server, scroll down until you see a Trash folder.  Select this folder.  Then select advanced at the top left.



27.) This way, your Drafts, Sent Mail, and Trash are shared on the server, instead of kept on the iOS device specifically.  Select Account at the top left, then Done at the top right, then Done again.

Exit preferences with the Home button.  You can now use the mail app to read and send messages as you please.
