Media Services

Multi-Media Service can provide assistance with recording, duplicating, converting, digitizing or web hosting of audio/ video materials.

Duplication and Conversion
Our digital studio features a variety of equipment on a flexible routing system. We provide the following services:

• Audio/Video duplications, conversions: VHS, DVD/CD/LD, miniDV, Cassette, DAT.

• International standards conversions: PAL, SECAM, NTSC.

• Off-air educational recordings: Resnet, SCOLA, Cable TV.

• Digitizing and compressing audio and video for web streaming.

3-5 business days advance notice is required. There is no charge for duplication/conversion services for SAS classes. Charges will be applied for services for non-SAS and non-class related requests. Charges will be applied for media supplies (audio/video tapes, CDs, DVDs, etc).

Multi-Media Services operates in accordance with US Copyright laws and fair use restrictions.

Streaming Media and Webcasts
Multi-Media Services operates its own streaming media servers. We host streaming media for on-demand access and live webcasts in RealVideo, Windows Media and Quicktime formats. Our servers host MP3 audio files and other media types. Additional information is available to instructors by sending mail to: mmets@sas.upenn.edu.

Live webcasts can be arranged for special events. Webcasts require significant preparation, and may involve fees for equipment or labor. For more information, or to discuss the details of your request, please contact us at reserve@sas.upenn.edu. Significant notice is required.

Videoconferencing
Our videoconferencing system is located in the Multi-Media Services digital studio. We can accommodate up to four people. Fees for using the system are typically $50/hour with a $100 minimum. Multi-party conferences can be arranged, but may require third-party contracting at an additional expense. For a more complete description of our rates, click here.

Production
Multi-Media Services hosts post-production audio and video editing facilities for educational purposes. Our technical staff provide training and tutorials upon request. This work is supported by SAS Instructional Technology grants.
