IRCS now offers a data backup service to postdocs, IGERT students and faculty/labs. If you are unsure whether or not you qualify fill out the form and I will speak with you in person.
The backups can be performed on Windows XP/Vista, Mac OS X and Linux machines.
Please realize that this service is not foolproof. It is still possible your backup could fail, go undetected for a week or two and your hard drive could crash. That being said, it is still better to backup your data because although problems can arise, it is generally a safe and reliable way to save your data.
This form must first be filled out or you can not proceed. You will be asked for a username and password, please use your PennKey.
After filling out the above form, you will be contacted by Chris Leary.
If your computer fails, or you have deleted a file from your workstation, disconnect your workstation from the campus network immediately and contact Chris Leary.
It is very important that you disconnect your workstation from the network as quickly as possible after the deletion event.

Incremental backups are done daily. Deleted files are removed from the incremental backup, so if a subsequent backup is completed there is nothing we can do to recover your lost file.
