Tips for recording your screen using Camtasia Studio for Windows

We recommend Camtasia Studio as a good product for creating screencast movies.  The tips below are for the Windows version.  Camtasia Studio is also available for Mac OS X.   Visit our main screencast information page or contact mms-help@sas.upenn.edu for more information.

  1. Follow Camtasia's  step-by-step instructions to learn how to create your screencast project.
  2. Once you've completed your project, you will probably want to share the recording with your students over the web.  SAS instructors can request an account on the media.sas server.  That's the best place to store your movies so they'll be available to the students in your class.
  3. Follow the steps below to save your project in a format that will work well on the web

After you have saved your project and you're ready to share the finished product, select 'Produce Video As' from the File Menu:

Select 'Web' from the list of presets  and verify that your settings match those shown below:

Follow the prompts until the export is finished.  You'll something like this; on the Open Production Folder button as shown below:

This will open up a folder which contains several files - you won't need to use most of these.   Find the file which is listed as MPEG-4 Movie as the file type (see the example below).  This is the file you'll want to upload to media.sas or other web server.
