SASC++ Evaluating Project Ideas

Evaluating the Ideas

Impact: We asked every SAS Computing team member to assign points to the ideas they felt moved us closest to the SASC++ vision.

Commitment: We asked every SAS Computing team member which ideas they would like to work on personally.

Cost: The SASC++ steering committee assigned a rough 1-4 cost/time estimate to every idea using the following scale:

  1. Less than 1 week and $3,000
  2. Less than 6 weeks and $7,000
  3. Less than 24 weeks and $15,000
  4. More than 24 weeks and $15,000

Building the First SASC++ Action Queue

Graphing impact vs. cost gave us 4 quadrants we labelled (moving clockwise from top right):

  • Worthwhile Investments
  • Quick Wins
  • Easy, but moderate impact
  • Difficult, moderate impact

We focused our attention primarily on the right two quadrants, “Worthwhile Investments” and “Quick Wins.”  We also noted that some ideas in these quadrants were already underway and should be folded into the SASC++ program.  We are calling these “Ongoing Successes.”
