My most memorable public speaking experience: The very first time I had to speak for an extended period of time (over an hour as opposed to a couple of minutes) was near the end of my junior year in high school, when I had to give a lecture on Mendelian and modern genetics for my AP biology class. It was incredibly memorable for me not because I nailed it, but because I came so unprepared. Easily the worst talk I've ever given, but also, in the long run, the most beneficial for my development as a speaker.
I became a CWiC Advisor because: I used to be an atrociously bad speaker, and for that reason, I know all too well how important good speaking skills are, and I want to help others develop these skills.
