“The Center of Attention: Communication Centers and the Communities We Serve”
The National Association of Communication Centers invites academic research submissions at their 8th annual conference March 27-28, 2009, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. During the conference we will celebrate the community of student, faculty, and staff scholars that come together to share challenges, solutions, and successes.
Conference Theme:
“The Center of Attention: Communication Centers and the Communities We Serve”
In the spirit of reflecting on how we cultivate community, the theme for the 8th Annual NACC Mini-Conference focuses on the commitment we make to the various communities we serve. These may include: (1) students/clients, (2) faculty/staff, (3) tutors/advisors/coaches, (4) local communities beyond campus, (5) our field/discipline—NACC and NCA. Our work may connect communities with one another or it may focus on one community at a time. Submissions can address any topics relevant to the work of Communication Centers. However, submitters are encouraged to ask how their work serves and impacts the communities it addresses.
The program committee invites proposals in the following formats:
Paper: An oral presentation of an original research paper that investigates a topic from an empirical or theoretical perspective. We also welcome topics such as starting communication centers, training tutors, assessment of communication centers, working with client populations, and center physical space issues.
Poster: A visual presentation on a poster illustrating research from an empirical or theoretical perspective.
Panel: A discussion led by up to five participants on specific themes or issues relevant to the section's mission. Those present will have an opportunity to participate.
Interest Groups: An opportunity for scholars with common interests and questions to exchange ideas with each other for the purpose of building scholarly networks.
Workshop Sessions: An opportunity to provide training to center/lab personnel in various communication center settings.
G.I.F.T.S. Sessions: Great Ideas for Teachers, a forum to allow the continued evolution of integrating the communication center into a rigorous curriculum.
All submissions should be e-mailed as Word documents to weberes@sas.upenn.edu by FEBRUARY 13, 2009.
