FAQs
What sort of presentations can advisors help with?
Advisors work with just about any type of oral presentation. We can help with individual presentations, answering audience questions, group presentations, discussion leadership and participation, and debate. Advisors are prepared to work with students of all experience levels and at any point in the preparation process, from defining a thesis to final polishing.
What can I expect?
In your session you will likely deliver your presentation and discuss it with the advisor. Depending on your needs, though, the session might instead explore how to start composing a talk or analyze a specific element of your presentation. In all cases, before coming to the Center consider your presentation's purpose and audience so you can explain your goals to the advisor. For suggestions to get the most out of your visit, see our tips page.
In general, advice will focus on the thesis, support (including visual support) and organization of your presentation. To a lesser extent, advisors will also discuss your delivery and style. Be sure to tell your advisor about any specific concerns you want to address.
