Associate Professor--Conversion to Tenure

III. THE STANDING FACULTY OF ARTS AND SCIENCES

D. ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR--CONVERSION TO TENURE

  1. Persons initially appointed to the rank of Associate Professor from outside the University may be given untenured appointments for terms of five years except that faculty appointed to the rank of Associate Professor who have not previously held faculty appointments at other institutions may elect a probationary period of seven years. These individuals must be informed, prior to the end of the penultimate year of this appointment, that they will either be terminated or given an appointment with tenure at the end of that appointment. The procedures and timetables for departments action in these cases are exactly the same as those listed directly above under "Promotion to Associate Professor."
