2000 Logistics

We are currently in the process of preparing for the upcoming field season. This year we will place nine researchers on Axel Heiberg Island for most of July. Many of the logistical considerations are similar to those of the 1999 field season. Once again, Polar Continental Shelf Project (PCSP) will provide expert logistical support to our project. PCSP operates a logistics network which has provided support for scientific research in the Canadian Arctic for over 40 years.

We anticipate departing Philadelphia, PA, USA on 7 July, 2000 for Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. From Ottawa we will fly by commercial airline to the PCSP base in Resolute Bay, NU Canada via Iqaluit, NU, on Baffin Island. From Resolute will fly ca. 650 km by twin-engine turboprop "Twin Otter" aircraft (pictured above) to Eureka, NU on Ellesmere Island and then into the field site either by Twin Otter or helicopter depending on the landing conditions at the site.

All of the food and consumables for this field season were purchased in Iqaluit and shipped by air to Resolute Bay. This was carried out by Mr. Christopher King of Iqaluit.
