In the recently released eBook published through Knowledge@Wharton, 'Arab Women Rising' captures how women across the Arab world are pioneering new sectors within their economies. The book was co-written by Nafeesa Syeed and Rahilla Zafar, MES '13, who traveled all across the region from Sudan to Saudi Arabia interviewing dozens of women. Much of what they found was women recognizing environmental challenges in their countries and launching for profit enterprises to solve them. Zafar, an alum of the Penn Masters of Environmental Studies program, will present many of the women they came across, highlighting how regional policies, access to capital and the post-revolution political climate impacted their endeavors.
