Courses
Mr. Laskowski has developed and taught many MES courses related to environmental management and environmental policy. These courses can be categorized as follows:
1-- Global Water and Sanitation: there are three courses in this series and they all relate to the United Nation Millennium Development Goals [MDG] for water and sanitation. Briefly stated, these goals are to reduce by half by the year 2015 the percent of the worlds population which does not have access to clean water and basic sanitation. One course is an overview course, the second focuses on governance and finance issues relating to water and sanitation systems in the developing world, and the third is field-oriented and includes visits to the UN, USEPA, USAID, NGOs, and nearby treatment plants.
2-- Environmental Regulation and Innovation: the first of these two courses address how EPA regulates pollutors through a systems of laws, regulations, permits, inspections, and enforcement. The second addresses many of the innovative approaches that the business community and others have adopted that go beyond basic regulatory requirements.
3-- Global Environmental Problems is a course co-taught with Ira Feldman, President, Greentrack Strategies. It provides an overview of various global problems [eg, climate change, water pollution, transboundary issues], and attempts by the world community to address them.
4-- Local Environmental Management Issues: These courses are co-taught with Carol Collier, Executive Director, Delaware River Basin Commission. One course focuses on the Delaware River Basin and the other adresses the environmental impacts of infrastructure [eg, highways, water/sewer systems, airports, ports] on the City of Philadelphia.
