New data confirms that 2014 is officially the hottest year on record, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. Scientists have been tracking global temperatures since 1880 and the continued upward trend is very disturbing. In November, the final report came out from the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warning that without significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, we will face food shortages, refugee crisis, droughts, floods, extreme heat and mass extinctions of plants and animals. This hour, we’ll look at global warming: the research, the politics and public opinion. Marty’s guests are MICHAEL MANN, professor of meteorology at Penn State University, NAOMI ORESKES, professor of the History of Science at Harvard University, and IRINA MARINOV, assistant professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Science at University of Pennsylvania.
