7TH INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON FISSION-TRACK THERMOCHRONOLOGY

I hosted the 7th International Workshop on Fission-Track Thermochronology. The meeting was held at the Geology Department of the University of Pennsylvania during the week of July 13-17, 1992. During the meeting 95 scientific papers (63 talks and 32 posters) were presented by scientists from all over the world, covering a wide range of theoretical and applied aspects of fission-track thermochronology. Funding for the meeting was acquired from the Geology Department, oil companies, commercial fission -track establishments, and the National Science Foundation. I was able, primarily with NSF funds, to provide financial assistance to 25 graduate students from all over the world to attend the meeting. Besides the formal scientific program, the schedule in cluded a one-day field trip to the Newark basin, attendance at an Omni-vision presentation about Antarctica, and a banquet dinner and floor show on a boat on the Delaware River. The proceedings of the Workshop is published in Nuclear Tracks and Radiation Measurements, volume 21, No. 4, 1993.

Thesis and Dissertation supervision

I have supervised the fission-track and/or petrologic/petrographic research of about 20 Ph.D. and Master students and Member in several other graduate student thesis committees.

Research Interests

Although I am knowledgeable in most branches of Earth sciences, my main area of interest is Thermochronology; the use of radioactive isotopic systems to evaluate the thermal and mechanical history of existing and long gone mountain ranges that formed as a result of extensional (rifted continental margins e.g. Red Sea and northern Atlantic margins) and compressional (e.g. Rocky Mountains) tectonics, rift basins along the eastern seaboard of the USA., and study of meteorite impact events.
