GEOL 206: Stratigraphy
Penn's Stratigraphy course is designed to introduce sedimentary concepts, stratigraphic principles, depositional environments, and interpretation of the rock record in a paleoecological setting.
Liz Lovelock ('05), Pete Hulson ('04), and Andrew Leslie ('04) examine the bottom and top of a coal seam at an outcrop near Pottsville, PA.
Mike Campana ('06) prepares to measure the width of a coal seam. Students measured a large section of the outcrop then brought the data back to the computer lab and produced stratigraphic sections.
Natalie Nahill (MES '05) examines the Boulder Field at Hickory Run State Park. The formation of the Boulder Field has been a source of contention among geologist for many years.
