Brian Mc Manus began teaching at the ELP in the summer of 2011 and became a Language Specialist here in January 2012.
Originally from Ireland, Brian lived in the UK during his undergraduate studies and then taught EFL in Madrid, Spain for 2 years. After moving to the US he taught at a number of adult ESL programs in the San Francisco Bay Area in California, including Language Studies International (LSI), Contra Costa Community College and Alameda Adult School. He set up, coordinated, and taught at a vocational ESL program for recently resettled refugees and asylees with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in San Jose, California. From this experience he gained a keen interest in curriculum development and materials design, English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and assessment and evaluation issues.
Brian’s other great passion is drama. Before turning to his present career he ran, directed, and acted in his own theatre company in Ireland. Now he is interested in applying drama techniques to the language classroom.
Brian holds a BA in Theatre and Film Studies from London Metropolitan University in the UK and an MA in English (TESOL) from San Francisco State University (SFSU).
