Cheryl Wecksler

Cheryl Wecksler joined the English Language Programs as a Language Specialist in 2005. Before coming to the University of Pennsylvania, she taught in ESL at the University of Buffalo (New York), Northern Essex Community College (Massachusetts), Tokyo Foreign Language College (Japan), and San Diego State University and California State University, San Marcos (California). She became Director of the American Language and Culture Institute at CSU San Marcos in 1993. In 1999, she moved to Philadelphia and joined the faculty of the English Language Center at Drexel University. In 2001, she became the Assistant Director of Drexel’s Intensive English Program.

Ms. Wecksler received a BA in Anthropology from the University of Buffalo and worked for several years as a museum curator. She lived and studied in Strasbourg, France before returning to the University of Buffalo, where she earned a master’s degree in TESL in 1983.

Her professional interests include instruction in academic preparation, writing, grammar, and pronunciation. She has taught in EFL teacher training programs, mentored graduate student teaching interns, and has chaired panels at TESOL and CATESOL. She has done a great deal of materials and curriculum development and is the author of Study Skills for Academic Success (Heinle & Heinle).
