Lecturer
Gena Bennett has been teaching at the ELP since June 2007. She teaches Writing for Biomedical Professionals and Writing the University Application Essay.
Ms. Bennett has an M.A in applied linguistics from Georgia State University, and has worked with English language learners in adult basic education, foreign language education, higher education, and refugee youth for almost ten years. Ms. Bennett is currently a corpus researcher for Pearson Education, researching the “Longman Spoken American Corpus” and the “Longman Written American Corpus” for information pertaining to grammatical concepts appearing in the popular Azar grammar series. She is the co-author of “Teaching a Lexis-Based Academic Writing Course” (UMP) with Lawrence J. Zweir, and is currently writing a book on practical applications of corpora for Pearson Education to be published in 2008.
Ms. Bennett has presented numerous workshops and training on using corpora in language teaching, including sessions at the international TESOL convention with Averil Coxhead, Jan Frodeson, and Norbert Schmidt, and is also active in the TESOL organization as chair of the CETC (Christian Educators in TESOL Caucus), books reviews editor of the Higher Education Interest Section Newsletter, and a member of the Advisory Group to the Board Standing Committee on Membership. Ms. Bennett particularly enjoys teaching writing and grammar.
