Language Specialist
Heather Williams, Language Specialist, joined the ELP in 1997. Currently she divides her time between the Intensive Program, in which she has taught core courses as well as a wide variety of intermediate and advanced elective courses, the International Business Communication Program and the Executive Communication Program. She has also coordinated the Goldman Sachs English for Information Technology program and the Summer Institute for English Language Educators from South Africa.
Ms. Williams received her BA in French from the University of Michigan, worked for several years in San Francisco as a bilingual assistant manager in an export company, and then completed her MA in French at San Jose State University in California. She moved to Philadelphia and taught French at Delaware County Community College and at Drexel University while completing her MS degree in TESOL at the University of Pennsylvania. During her graduate studies in TESOL, she also taught beginning and intermediate elective courses in the English Language Center at Drexel University.
Ms. Williams completed her training to become a certified ACTFL oral proficiency rater in 2000. She is especially interested in the use of music and video in the teaching of pronunciation and conversation skills, as well as in the development of programs designed to integrate ELP students into the native English speaking population of the University.
