Katie Ryan joined the ELP as a lecturer in 2007 and became a Language Specialist in 2008. She moved into the Programs Coordinator role in 2011 and became Programs Manager in 2014. Ms. Ryan oversees and teaches in custom and open-enrollment programs for academic and professional purposes including the ELP's summer institutes, the International Business Communication for Professionals program, and pre-term programs for students entering graduate programs in business, law, and dentistry. Since 2011, Ms. Ryan has helped to launch the Toyota Study Abroad Program for Prospective Employees, the Institute for Academic Studies, and the Institute for Business Communication. She has also taught in and developed curriculum for the general Intensive Program, as well as taught in and rated performance assessments for the International Teaching Assistants program. She is a certified SPEAK rater and is currently working towards ACTFL OPI Tester Certification.
Ms. Ryan’s career as an English language educator began at a secondary school in Bangkok, Thailand (2004-2005) and has included work as a Materials Writer and Editor for the English Language Programs at the U.S. Department of State (2009-2011). Katie holds an MA in TESOL from American University and a BA in Communication with a specialization in journalism from Loyola University in Maryland. Her primary teaching interests include content-based instruction, intelligibility and vocabulary development.
