Melissa Yi joined the ELP as a language specialist in 2012, and has been teaching ESL since 2004. Ms. Yi taught academic English in the Intensive English Program at Indiana State University, acted as an educational director and teacher for a learning center, and most recently worked with international and college preparatory high school students in the Chicago area. Ms. Yi’s career has taken her to China twice. In 2004, she taught English to university students in Urumqi, and in 2008, she trained middle and high school English teachers at a teachers’ college in Nankang.
Ms. Yi has also served as tutor for a wide range of students with different needs. She enjoys working with international students of all ages and learning about their cultures while equipping students with the academic skills necessary for their success.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Bryn Mawr College, and a Master’s degree in TESOL from the University of Pennsylvania. She is a member of TESOL and Penn-TESOL East, and her professional interests include ESL writing, teacher education, second language acquisition and English for academic purposes.
