Sheila Mayne joined the staff of the English Language Programs as a Language Specialist in January 2002. In addition to teaching in the Intensive Program, she has taught in and coordinated the Conversation and Culture Program. She comes to the ELP with more than ten years of experience as an English language, literature, and writing instructor. She received her MA in TESOL/linguistics with an emphasis on writing from San Jose State University in California and has since taught in universities in the United Arab Emirates and Mexico.
Ms. Mayne trained as a writing consultant in the National Writing Project and has presented at numerous national and state conferences for English teachers on writing and literature in the classroom. She has published in the Mexican TESOL Journal and presented at the national TESOL conference on the topic of using literature circles in the composition classroom.
In addition to her pedagogical interest in writing, Ms. Mayne has tried her hand at freelance writing on such topics as food and travel.
