Application Checklist

Additional details are included on the Enrollment Form.
To enroll*, please send:

  • Completed enrollment form
  • Photocopy of passport (name, date of birth, and photo)
  • Financial Support documentation (statement from bank or sponsor)
  • Check, international postal money order, or traveler's check for $400
    • Non-refundable payment includes $90 enrollment fee and $310 tuition deposit
    • Make payable to: Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania
  • Color passport photo (5cm x 5cm)
  • Program-specific requirements
  • Additional documents for transfer students

* Enrollment in this program does not constitute admission to any other program at the University of Pennsylvania. Students must be at least 17 years old on the first day of the program.

Program-specific Requirements

Please note that the coordinator will not review your application until all materials have been received.

  • Business Intensive Program (BIP)
    • One of the following as proof of language proficiency at a CEFR level of B2-.
      • Internet-based TOEFL of 70 or higher
      • Paper-based TOEFL of 530 or higher
      • IELTS of 6 or higher
      • TOEIC of 720 or higher
      • If you have not taken one of these tests, contact the ELP for assistance.
  • University Connection (UniConn) 
    • Complete the "University Connection" section of application.
    • New students must place into the 600 level of the Intensive Program.
       
  • University Connection Plus (UniConn Plus)
    • Complete the "University Connection" section of application.
    • One of the following as proof of language proficiency at a CEFR level of B2-:
      • Internet-based TOEFL of 70 or higher
      • Paper-based TOEFL of 530 or higher
      • IELTS of 6 or higher
      • If you have not taken one of these tests, contact the ELP for assistance. 
  • International Business Communication for Professionals - Intermediate Speakers (IBCP-I)
    • Written statement (maximum 250 words) in English that describes your professional work experience (of at least 2 years) and goals for attending IBCP
    • One of the following as proof of language proficiency at a CEFR level of B1-:
      • Internet-based TOEFL of 57+
      • Paper-based TOEFL of 487+
      • IELTS of 5.5+
      • TOEIC score of 550+
      • If you have not taken one of these tests, contact the ELP for assistance. 
  • International Business Communication for Professionals - Advanced Speakers (IBCP-A)
    • Written statement (maximum 250 words) in English that describes your professional work experience (of at least 2 years) and goals for attending IBCP
    • One of the following as proof of language proficiency at a CEFR level of B2:
      • Internet-based TOEFL of 74+
      • Paper-based TOEFL of 535+
      • IELTS of 6.0+
      • TOEIC score of 750+
      • If you have not taken one of these tests, contact the ELP for assistance.  
  • Institute for Academic Studies (IAS)
    • One of the following as proof of language proficiency at a CEFR level of B1-
      • Internet-based TOEFL of 57+
      • Paper-based TOEFL of 487+
      • IELTS of 5.5+
      • TOEIC of 550+
      • If you have not taken one of these tests, contact the ELP for assistance.
  • Institute for Business Communication (IBC)
    • Written statement (maximum 250 words) in English that describes your educational experience and goals for attending IBC
    • One of the following as proof of language proficiency at a CEFR level of B1-
      • Internet-based TOEFL of 57+
      • Paper-based TOEFL of 487+
      • IELTS of 5.5+
      • TOEIC of 550+

  • Institute for MBA and LLM Preparation (IMLP)
    • Acceptance letter to U.S. MBA or LLM Program
    • TOEFL or IELTS scores

If you are applying to the ELP as a transfer student, please also submit the following documents with your application:

1) Acceptance Packet: After we receive your materials, the ELP will send you an enrollment packet via courier service. Your enrollment packet will contain:

  • An admission letter with instructions on how to get to the University and when and where you should report for the start of your program.
  • Form I-20 (if you have requested an F-1 visa).
  • Instructions on how to apply for your F-1 student visa. Reminder - All students must pay their SEVIS fee prior to their visa appointment.

2) Housing: Once you have completed your enrollment, you should apply for housing. Click here for housing options. Applications for housing are sent directly to housing providers.
