Application Requirements

To enroll*, please send:

  • A completed enrollment form. Keep a photocopy of this form for your records.
  • A photocopy of the page in your passport that shows your name and your date of birth.
  • A 2 x 2 inch (5 X 5 cm) color passport style photograph of you (front view, head and shoulders).
  • A non-refundable enrollment fee of $90 and a non-refundable tuition deposit of $310, for a total of $400. (This must be in the form of a check or money order drawn on a US bank, an international postal money order, or travelers checks. Make the check or money order payable to the Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania. The University does not accept credit cards or wire transfer for enrollment fees and deposit payments.)
  • If you need a student (F-1) visa, include an original letter from your bank or sponsor showing you have enough money to pay for all program and living expenses while you are in the US. You need to show us that you will have enough money to pay for your tuition, fees, books, housing, food, and personal items such as clothing and toiletries. Please see enrollment form for required funding amounts.

Please note that students must be at least 17 years old on the first day of the program. For more information about student visas, click here.

* Enrollment in this program does not constitute admission to any other program at the University of Pennsylvania.

Program-specific Requirements

Please note that the coordinator will not review your application until all materials have been received.

  • Business Intensive Program (BIP)
    • One of the following as proof of language proficiency at a CEFR level of B2-.
      • Internet-based TOEFL of 70 or higher
      • Paper-based TOEFL of 530 or higher
      • IELTS of 6 or higher
      • TOEIC of 720 or higher
      • If you have not taken one of these tests, contact the ELP for assistance.
  • University Connection  (UniConn)
    • Complete the "University Connection" section of application.
       
  • University Connection Plus (UniConn Plus)
    • Complete the "University Connection" section of application.
    • One of the following as proof of language proficiency at a CEFR level of B2-:
      • Internet-based TOEFL of 70 or higher
      • Paper-based TOEFL of 530 or higher
      • IELTS of 6 or higher
      • If you have not taken one of these tests, contact the ELP for assistance. 
  • International Business Communication for Professionals - Intermediate Speakers (IBCP-I)
    • Written statement (maximum 250 words) in English that describes your professional work experience (of at least 2 years) and goals for attending IBCP
    • One of the following as proof of language proficiency at a CEFR level of B1-:
      • Internet-based TOEFL of 57+
      • Paper-based TOEFL of 487+
      • IELTS of 5.5+
      • TOEIC score of 550+
      • If you have not taken one of these tests, contact the ELP for assistance. 
  • International Business Communication for Professionals - Advanced Speakers (IBCP-A)
    • Written statement (maximum 250 words) in English that describes your professional work experience (of at least 2 years) and goals for attending IBCP
    • One of the following as proof of language proficiency at a CEFR level of B2+:
      • Internet-based TOEFL of 84+
      • Paper-based TOEFL of 565+
      • IELTS of 6.5+
      • TOEIC score of 800+
      • If you have not taken one of these tests, contact the ELP for assistance.  
  • Institute for Academic Studies (IAS)
    • One of the following as proof of language proficiency at a CEFR level of B1-
      • Internet-based TOEFL of 57+
      • Paper-based TOEFL of 487+
      • IELTS of 5.5+
      • TOEIC of 550+
      • If you have not taken one of these tests, contact the ELP for assistance.
  • Institute for Business Communication (IBC)
    • One of the following as proof of language proficiency at a CEFR level of B2-
      • Internet-based TOEFL of 70+
      • Paper-based TOEFL of 530+
      • IELTS of 6.0+
      • TOEIC of 720+
      • If you have not taken one of these tests, contact the ELP for assistance.
  • Institute for MBA Preparation
    • Written statement (maximum 250 words) in English that describes your university studies and goals for attending IMP.  Please note: you must have completed your undergraduate degree to participate in this program.
    • One of the following as proof of language proficiency at a CEFR level of B2+:
      • Internet-based TOEFL of 84+
      • Paper-based TOEFL of 565+
      • IELTS of 6.5+
      • TOEIC score of 800+
      • If you have not taken one of these tests, contact the ELP for assistance.

What's Next?

After we receive your materials, the ELP will send you an enrollment packet via courier service. Your enrollment packet will contain:

  • An admission letter with instructions on how to get to the University and when and where you should report for the start of your program.
  • Form I-20 (if you have requested an F-1 visa).
  • Instructions on how to apply for your F-1 student visa. Reminder - All students must pay their SEVIS fee prior to their visa appointment.

Housing

Once you have completed your enrollment, you must apply for housing. Click here for housing options and applications. Please send housing application directly to your first housing choice. Housing confirmation will be sent to you separately by your housing provider.
