ELP instructors use teaching methods that encourage students to use English for real situations outside of the classroom. They have completed coursework at the graduate level in ESL, and some have received PhDs and other graduate degrees such as MBAs.
They frequently conduct research, write textbooks, publish articles, present papers or workshops at conferences, and serve as officers in local and national professional organizations. Several ELP members also hold appointments at the Graduate School of Education of the University of Pennsylvania, where they teach courses in the ESL/EFL masters and PhD programs and serve on dissertation committees.
