Karen Murray joined the English Language Programs as a lecturer and later became a Business Language Specialist and International Communications for Professionals program coordinator. Karen has taught a variety of courses in the Intensive Program and Business English programs. She comes to the ELP with 20+ years of experience in higher education in the areas of English language, developmental reading and writing, and study skills. Her teaching interests are in writing, the integration of technology into the classroom, online learning and English for Specific Purposes.
Ms. Murray has served as the Program Coordinator for Project Read, a tri-county literacy program in Northwest Ohio where she developed a training program and trained volunteers. Also, she designed program curricula and materials for the ESL Adult Education classes, the workplace literacy program for Whirlpool Corporation, Inc. in NW Ohio and the ESL program at Hagerstown Community College in Maryland. While living in Frankfurt, Germany for four years, she taught reading and ESL to American military personnel in Wiesbaden, Germany. Ms. Murray taught at Harcum College and the University of Pennsylvania upon arrival in Philadelphia in 2009.
Ms. Murray earned her B.S. in Sociology from Ball State University, MEd in Reading/Business from Frostburg State University, TESOL certification from Columbia University and certification as an Online English Language Teacher from TESOL International Association.
